On the Edge
Starfish sculpture made with a variety of woods and displayed on a granite column.
On The Edge.
On the Edge was a fun piece to make. The challenge was to get the starfish to feel like it was in motion - an odd thing maybe for a creature that moves so slowly, but a sense of movement was needed to give it some life. The dots are birch dowel soaked in tints for color. As with Idle Time and Monday, I draped the arms over the edge to make the granite base part of the sculpture rather than a pedestal
